Master Teacher

Our very own Father and Husband has made his mark on society, he has helped many and has been recognized. Richard Glassford was in the BYU magazine for Fall 2009. He was recognized for having great Field Experiences, providing Great Opportunities, and Mentoring University Supervision. In the article it states :
"I was apprehensive many years ago as I stepped into the classroom for the very first time. I had just finished my course work at BYU and started student teaching with Scott Squire (Lakeridge Junior High) and Carl Ingersol (Mountain View High School). Both of these men were skilled mentors and teachers. It was their desire to help me become an effective instructor that contributed most to my success. Their efforts to share, listen, and work with me were a priceless gift.
While completing his student teaching, a good friend at BYU had the opposite experience. Because of lack of mentoring, his experience was so discouraging that he did not continue his training to become a teacher. I frequently wonder, what if my friend had had the same support I had as a student teacher?
Today I have my own classroom and owe much to my mentors who helped me find my style of teaching. Over the years I have had opportunities to give back to my profession through mentoring. I currently work with teacher candidates from BYU. The process of mentoring improves my skills as a teacher and provides a medium for me to pass on what I have learned. I hope to be able to continue helping young teachers have a positive impact on the educational system." http://education.byu.edu/news/magazine/focus

We are very proud of Mr. G and his hard work has paid off immensely!!!! Good Job!

  1. YAY!!! That is so exciting! Dad, you really are such a wonderful teacher. I wouldn't be considering the career path in biology that I am if it weren't for you and your wonderful teaching abilities in the classroom and throughout my life as a father. I love you so much and it probably sounds kind of weird coming from your daughter... but I'm so proud! I want to share the article with everyone I know :) Haha, you really deserve any and all of the recognition that you get.

    Love you Daddy!

  2. Thank you Angela that means a lot. I just ran into one of your classmates at one of Richie's soccer games and we reminisced about your group. I really enjoyed teaching you and your friends. It was a very unique time in my life. This year is the first in a long time that I am not teaching one of my kids. Thanks for the kudos.

Love you and see you in a few days.

  3. Hey Mr. Glassford! I would just like to say that you are an amazing teacher! I have remembered many random facts from your class that I am sure will help me in my Biology class next semester. I also remember how hard you worked and how much passion you put into teaching us. It really did show how much you wanted us to learn and suceed. Because of great teachers like you, I have decided to become one myself. I want to teach either jr. high or high school. I just hope that I can follow your example of great teaching and make a difference in my students lives like you did in mine. THanks!

  4. Mr. Glassford, I want to let you know what a difference you have made in my life! My ninth-grade year you taught me a lot more than Biology, and I really feel that I'm a better person in so many ways for having been your student. As it is, your enthusiasm in class everyday has been a big part of my desire to become a teacher. Thank you for being such a good teacher and caring about each of us. We could tell that you wanted us to succeed in life as well as in biology. Thank you for working so hard to teach us, challenge us, and inspire us. I'm only a year away from my student teaching, and I only pray that I can someday have the same effect on my students that you have had on so many.
God bless you for all that you do. Sometimes it might not feel like we're grateful, but we are. :)

p.s. And I'm really sorry about not sending you a wedding invite! I promise it's not because I didn't want to invite you!

  5. Congratulations Dad! You are a great teacher and mentor. I feel blessed to have gotten the opportunity to take two of your classes. I know that you have made a difference on many kids that you have taught through the years. You care and push for excellence. I hope Jacob and Derek will be able to have teachers with as much passion for what they do as you.

  6. Mr. Glassford, you should know that you were one of the best and most favorite teachers I've ever had. Not only because you taught us biology in a way that made sense, or because you helped us learn the value of hard work, but you taught me how to live my life a little better. There are two things I remember learning from you. The first was not to tiptoe into the (cold) ocean of life, but to just jump right in. The second was that you always considered your job (and I'm sure other aspects of life) as an adventure. With that perspective, not only is anything possible, but anything is exciting, fun, and worthwhile.
I am so grateful I was able to learn so much from you in my young years, and glad so many other students have had the same opportunity. Mr. Glassford, you rock!
