Life has been very hectic and very unusual the last few months. We hope for more relaxed days in the near future. We have been greatly blessed this past fall with strength, employment, and love. Below is our Potpourri post.... a little bit of everything I wanted to post about earlier this fall.

We were so proud of our apple trees this year. We only sprayed one organic oil application throughout the entire summer. Very little insect damage was seen among large tasty fruits. You can see three varieties in the image. The three apple blend was used in this year's apple sauce. Anyone care to guess what varieties are in the image?

Here is my "look out it is very hot" pepper blend. After drying, we ground the peppers into a powder. Only a sprinkle is needed to give just the right amount of heat. If you would like to try some let me know.

Jessica and little Derek are taking a walk around the Sink's Pool. Derek has a wonderful little personality. I like to tickle his feet.

Fishing at Payson Lake is a family pastime. It took about 15 minutes just to get everyone organized to take this image. They could not figure out how to get the fish all lined up on the stringer. Yes this is a legal limit.

Heather and Dan celebrated their birthday together. Dan had brownies and Heather enjoyed a layered "horse hoof" jelly cake.

Jacob found its easier to dive in with the mouth instead of using a spoon. Why waste valuable time with a utensil when you can slam it more efficiently.

Jessica and Heather share a special moment. Jessica made all the little boxes for Heather. Each box was filled with a little treat. I even enjoyed a few gummy candies.

I have been waiting for years to take an image of Grandpa smiling. I spent some time taking a few images of Grandpa before he left to Las Vegas.

No,we are not in Sequoia National Park (central Calif.) We planted this wonderful giant sequoia about six years ago. It is the fastest growing conifer on the planet.

Just chillin on the front porch with our pumpkins.
A great time was spent in the Sink pool. Watch how the old guys whoop the young bucks. Check out the video.
It has been an eventful few months! FYI - the jello mold was not the shape of horse shoe, but made in a bunt pan. I thought it was pretty awesome!
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures. For the apples, I am taking a wild guess and will say Fuji, Gala, and golden delicious (I know I am wrong for sure on the last one, but those don't look like Granny Smith, and that's the only green apple I know)! You better tell me what they really are at some point. I'll check back.
ReplyDeleteGood to here from the world traveling Pierce Family. We sure do miss working with you. School.
ReplyDeleteGood call on the golden delicious. We grow a variety cultivated by Starks Bros. It was discovered as a seedling in West Virginia in 1891.
The red apple in the foreground is a Jonagold. As the name implies it is a hybrid between the Jonathan and the Golden Delicious. It was developed in New York around 1953. This is my favorite all around apple. It has a fantastic complex flavor, sweet with at tinge of tartness.
The red apple in the background is the Red Delicious. This apple was introduced in 1880 and was a very popular apple for many years. Our Red Delicious is our most productive apple tree.
We do have Gala but we did not get a big crop this year. Gala is my favorite fresh eating apple.
Ironic that the only one I got right was the one I was sure was wrong!! Regardless, they all look delicious.
ReplyDeleteWe have an apple here called "A pink lady" that is my favorite local variety we've found so far. The signs above the fruit just say they are grown in France. Have you heard of them? It's how you describe the Jonagold--sweet with a tinge of tartness--and it is sooo tasty. They also have a nice firm texture.
Your apples look straight out of a US grocery store--very beautiful and healthy looking. Well done!
Haha Jessica I think Dad was just making his "old" joke about how jello is made from Horse Hove. Nice one Daddy! And these months have been way busy but super fun! Its nice to see this post so we can remember everything we did together! Thanks Dad!
ReplyDeleteJust for the record, I believed dad when he said that jello was made from horse hove. Maybe that is why I never really like eating jello... and it makes me think of hospitals for some reason.
ReplyDeleteThose are some nice pictures of the apples and peppers. I feel like you should get a couple more of some different fruits/veggies from the garden, and frame them all nice and cute for decoration in the kitchen.
