4th of July Fishing Trip - UTAH Lake

This morning we went fishing at Utah Lake. The bite was good but not excellent. I am helping grandpa bring in his big catfish. Grandpa played the fish like a pro, good thing because the fish was barely hooked. I was just thinking don't mess this up. What ever you do get this fish on the shore. I have unfortunately missed a couple of Grandpa's big fish........ oops ! My goal is to only mess up one more time. Lets hope it does not happen this summer.

Success !! Great team work. Grandpa has caught more big catfish than anyone else in the family. Sorry Hammer but grandpa has you beat ! Ha!

Check out my big fish. Wow !! I only caught a few little catfish but had great success with the white bass.

Richie had good luck throwing a jig. He caught many white bass and a couple of small mouth bass. It sure was nice to have him come along. I remember spending many days fishing with Grandpa as a kid. I loved fishing in the ocean.

I have caught some small mouth bass but not one this big. Richie was working his bass magic today. I threw some jigs and did not catch ONE fish on the jig.

Lynne also hooked into one of the big catfish. She did a nice job of playing the fish before I could net the fish. Richie is also holding one of the small bass he caught.

Check out Lynne's Walleye. We have caught bigger at this spot but just catching this species is a great time. They are incredible predators and have very large teeth. As you can notice I am holding her fish away from the body to protect me from its large teeth.

Here is our catch ! We are looking forward to a fish fry tomorrow. So far Grandpa and Lynne have the biggest catfish of the season. Hammer you have your work cut out.

Payson Lakes with Dan and Jessica

We love going fishing at Payson Lake. Today we had the honor of fishing with Dan and Jessica. Jessica and Lynne stayed on the shore to fish while Rich, Richie, and Dan took turns using the float tube.

Dan and Richie used lures to catch their fish, Unfortunately Lynne and Jessica just used yellow bait and caught more fish.

Nice fish Dan ! A gold colored lure tossed by
a professional = nice trout.

Richie is getting use to the water temperature before fishing. Even though he did not have fins he motored around trying to catch fish. Dan was successful and caught some fish on the float tube.

It got pretty warm so Lynne and Jessica decided to soak their toes in the cool water while fishing. Today was a lot of fun and very relaxing! Thanks for coming fishing with mom and dad!

Sunday Dinner

Richie and Rachel wrestling over who should go first.. Richie thinks younger to older... Rachel thinks girls before boys. Who do you think won?
Richie!

"Dan the Man" looking forward to Grandma's gravy. Got to love roast beef and gravy.

Grandma is inspecting Tyler's arm after getting hit at bat. Hey Tyler.... next time move out of the way. Ha!

Gina and Conner dishing up. David is in the background hoping there is enough gravy.

The girls are listening to Tyler describe his girl friend. Ha!

We actually caught Rachel listening instead of talking... moments caught on film ha ha, We had a lot of fun that day and everyone enjoyed seeing each other

Dan and Jessica (and even little Jacob) are completely satisfied with Grandma's Sunday Dinner!

Angie missing her boyfriend or maybe she got a bad piece of corn because I know the meat potatoes and gravy were excellent.

Splitting Beehive

Grandpa and Rich getting ready to split the beehive
and having fun with the duct tape and smoker.

Grandma prepares Grandpa for the possible attack of guard bees! She makes sure that there is NO possibility of any bees getting near her man!

Grandpa never goes without his diet Coke! Even fully dressed, he needed a last minute sip!

Grandpa smokes the bees down while Rich carefully removes frames of bees.

Wow! Look what I found. The dark spots are bees, and the tan sections are baby bees (brood) inside the comb. These bees will hatch soon and help the hive gather nectar and pollen.

Rich is carefully looking for the queen bee. He is making sure that there are enough baby bees in both hive boxes to keep them both healthy and alive.

At last we have two beehives for the bees to work with and make honey for the family as well for themselves.

Tibble Fork - American Fork Canyon

Dan, Jessica, Steve (Dan's Father) and I went fishing today up American Fork Canyon. We had a great time catching fish and enjoying the beautiful scenery. You can see Dan fishing by the little stream entering the lake.

Across the lake Jessica was fishing with her new found friend. He was a very nice old genetlman who helped her rig her line and take off her fish.

Dan fly fishing. Check out that back cast. Nicely done Dan.

Dan also used a silver lure to catch fish. He got a new fishing pole and reel and put it to good use today. Nice catch !!

Jessica and Dan enjoying their alone time before Jacob comes. I can't wait to go fishing with Jacob.

I spent most of my time fly fishing. The fish really liked the hares ear nymph.

The fish and I battled and had a short encounter before I let it go.

I was tempted to eat it but ...... I ate so much fish at Otter Creek. Lucky for this fish. Ha!

Dan having fun. Dan and I were talking about how nice it was having waders to fish in. The water is very cold and without them it becomes very hard to stay in the water for an extended period of time.

This is an image looking up the little stream coming out of the mountain.

Here is another one of my many fish caught today (brown trout). I talked with Grandma on the phone before going fishing and she gave me her luck. I am serious she passed the luck to me and boy I had it today. I kept pulling in fish. Thanks Grandma !! I will give you back your luck when we go to Scofield. Ha!

Otter Creek

Wow, Otter Creek lived up to our expectations ! Great fishing !! The only problem was the heat. Grandma out-fished us all. It was incredible, fish after fish........ she was relentless. We were all very impressed.

Richie got his workout carrying the fish. Most of these fish were caught by Grandma and Grandpa. They caught fish so fast I did not have time to catch my limit. Ha! Relentless !!

Richie and I found some interesting insects and spiders as well. The last time we visited Otter Creek was our family reunion we had there. I remember collecting insects with Brandon and the rest of the clan. Richie and I walked the same area for insects and did not find any new species.

Payson Lakes

We took a little trip to Payson Lakes and enjoyed fishing and the outdoors. The fishing was a little slow but we caught plenty. Grandma and Lynne cooked the fish and some sausage dogs. We had a warm fire that night and enjoyed the evening. We fished the following morning and came home to weed and tend the garden.

Our Bees

The bees have been very busy pollinating the berries etc. Grandpa and I are going to split the hive mid July. I put some honey and wax on the outside of the hive for a little treat.

Busy at Work

Grandpa is checking the tomato plants and Grandma is working on the outer garden wall. Early this spring when G&G came up to get the trailer we planted the beets, peas and onions. She has kept this area weed free. It looks very nice. We will start harvesting soon. See if you can be the first to locate grandpa's drink.
